IT Mill Releases Ajax Tools for Enterprise Web Application Developers

2007-03-19

New York City, New York -- March 19, 2007

IT Mill today announced the release of ‘IT Mill Toolkit 4.0’ – the next generation of its enterprise web development software.IT Mill Toolkit running on Nokia E70

IT Mill’s new Toolkit 4.0 is a server-side Java EE compatible environment that allows developers to create Ajax web applications using Java. With Toolkit 4.0 business application vendors will save significantly on training and development costs and speed up delivery of Web 2.0 applications.

Enhanced user experience using Ajax

Ajax – short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML – creates browser-based applications that are unparalleled in usability and responsiveness, offering user benefits such as Zero Install and extremely low-maintenance web development. Another key feature is that developers can update parts of a web page without refreshing the entire screen.

”We are very excited about Toolkit 4.0: it brings enterprise application developers using Java into the Ajax era,” says IT Mill CEO, Joonas Lehtinen.

Better productivity and real cost savings in testing

Using Java features on the server side is critical for staying productive and keeping applications easy to maintain in enterprise environments. “Unlike client-side Ajax tools — Google’s GWT for example — IT Mill Toolkit lets developers use the full Java programming environment, not just a subset,” Lehtinen points out. “This means less new technology to learn and to maintain.”

Using pre-tested user interface components, developers can ensure compatibility while achieving savings in browser testing. Lehtinen notes, “Business application developers should not have to worry about the ever-changing web platform technologies; they should be allowed to focus on the real business issues.”

Ensure browser compatibility – now and in the future

IT Mill Toolkit’s outstanding browser compatibility reduces development and testing costs. Toolkit 4.0 supports more web browsers than any other Ajax framework on the market today.

Enterprise applications typically have a very long life-cycle. Developers must understand this when choosing technologies and choose the tools that will provide the best future compatibility. “IT Mill’s web technology has been powering enterprise applications since 2001. These applications can now easily support new technologies that were introduced long after the applications themselves,” says Lehtinen.

Rich internet applications for the mobile world

Toolkit 4.0 offers preliminary support for Ajax in new mobile phones. Ajax is becoming a mainstream environment for enterprise applications and is currently supported by devices like the new Nokia Eseries phones. “We expect mobile Ajax applications to be the next big thing,” Lehtinen predicts.

IT Mill Toolkit 4.0 is freely available for downloading from the company’s website. The full production license for Toolkit 4.0 is priced at 4000€/server, with proportionately lower priced licenses available for limited environments.
